May 23, 2008, the oldest continuously serving regiment in the U.S. Army celebrated it’s 172nd birthday.
In Vilseck, Germany, home to the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, the Rear Detachment celebrated with children’s games, FRG foods and drinks, a dunking booth, pie throwing (in which Rear Detachment Commander LTC Thomas Rickard was slated as a target), kiddie jumping castles, and a raffle to raise money for the memorial monument.
At 1836 hrs. Cav time, there was a recognition of the historical and current contributions of the Regiment, and the cutting of the Regimental cake, pictured with the dining facility manager, SFC Larue, and one of the German bakers prior to the ceremony.

Happy Birthday Troopers!
In December 1952, while stationed at HQ Co, 2ndAC Regt in Amberg, Germany, I constructed a creche for the nativity in the church…are there any pictures in the archives??I can’t seem to find any of mine. It’s a long time ago…Fr.MacDonald was the priest and I was his driver on Sunday AM for church services around the area.If any one remembers me or can answer I would appreciate it for my album…Hope to see you in Vilseck.
