On June18, 2009, former Regimental CSM Curtis C. Patton underwent back and spinal surgery. After twenty days in Intensive and Intermediate Care, he was honorably discharged from Loma Linda University Medical Center late on July 7, 2009. He has returned home to Beaumont, CA to complete his recovery. While he has extensive rehabilitation and physical therapy to undergo, and kidney dialysis, he is in high spirits and ready to get on with regaining a combat ready status.
Former 3rd Squadron Commander Bill “Rusty Saber” Wilson wrote:
Given the extremely serious nature of his surgery and the life threatening complications he encountered, I think all of us can thank the Great God who made us all for his remarkable recovery. Surely, the prayers of so many fellow Soldiers, family and friends played a major role. Without a doubt, the support shown by all lifted his spirits when he needed it the most. For that, I know he is very grateful and will do his best to tell all of you that when he is able.
Between the skill of his medical team, his fierce will to live and those most important factors cited above, CSM Patton now is in the wonderful hands of his wife, Blanca. More than anyone, she provided the love and around-the-clock support that made this day possible. Our very tough Command Sergeant Major of Cavalry has an equally tough and beautiful person sharing his life, one totally worthy of wearing his “Yellow Ribbon.” It is a great day to be a Cavalryman!
This is the final SITREP from this Outpost concerning CSM Patton’s current health situation. Thank you for your attention and support.
Rusty Saber.
We, too, welcome back CSM Patton from the hospital and wish him well in his recovery.
