Vilseck, Germany – Troopers from 4th Squadron of the 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment gathered at Memorial Gym on Rose Barracks to welcome a new member into the Saber Family. Lt. Col. Andrew Green received the mantle of command from acting Commander Maj. Kenneth Reed during an assumption of command ceremony Tuesday Feb 16.

Reed assumed command earlier this year, replacing Lt. Col. Chris Boyle, who was forced to relinquish command due of health issues. Boyle was highly regarded by all the Sabers and is greatly missed. The entire Regiment supports him and his family and wishes him a quick recovery.

Green took time during his acceptance speech to extol the virtues of his predecessor Boyle.

“I feel extremely fortunate to get the chance to serve in the 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment,” Green said. “Command is always a privilege; command in time of war is a distinct honor.”

“Part of the honor for me today,” he continued, “is I follow in command one of the people I have respected the most in my military service, Lt. Col. Chris Boyle.”

“Chris is a great friend, tough smart and full of common sense,” Green said. “Any concerns I had about taking this squadron and rapidly deploying to ISAF were allayed when I saw the excellent and through preparation he did prior to his departure.”

“As I spend time around the squadron I see his leadership in so many positive ways.”

Green is a graduate of Seattle University. He has served as the Battalion Adjutant and then commanded HHC, 1-64 Armor, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart Georgia, Chief of Operations for 4/87 Training Support Brigade in Fort Stewart. Green then went on to serve as Brigade S-4 to the 1st Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, in Tongichen, South Korea.

From Korea Green reported to Ft. Hood, where he served as the Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Green returned from deployment to serve as the Knowledge Development Branch Chief, Joint Planner and then Executive Officer for the Command Interagency Engagement Group in Headquarters USEUCOM. In 2008, he became the Executive Officer for the Chief of Staff for NATO Allied Land Component Command in Heidelberg, Germany.

Green is married to the former Susann Kuehnert and has a daughter Zoe.
