Liberation Festival – Pilsen, Czech Republic

May 1, 2010toMay 6, 2010

This will mark the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Pilsen during WW II, and the 20th year they have been celebrating the collapse of communism in Pilsen and the Czech Republic.

The 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment will be well represented at the event by LTC Bryan Denny on his WW II Harley Davidson, a platoon of Strykers from Wolfpack Squadron, and a new M-777 artillery piece from Fires Squadron, in a parade on May 1 with our dear friends from the Pilsen Military Car Club and their vintage US WW II military vehicles. Stryker and artillery exhibitions will be held on the 1st and 2nd.

The 2d Cavalry Group was an imposing presence in Czechoslovakia during the final days of WW II in Europe during April and May of 1945, and guarded the border between West Germany and Czechoslovakia until the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989. This is the second year troopers of the 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment have taken part in the celebration, and it is a pleasure felt by both sides that old friends be reunited.

All though I was not old enough for wwII or Korea. I was a civilian instructor for the Army during the V-nam times. All though I never pulled a triger ,my hart has been changed for ever. I just recently found out about Pilsne, in the Czech Republic. That must be the only place on this Planet that realy remembers what Germany all most got away with. Do you have a list of events or places to go & see in Pilsne?
